About the Online Guides:
As you have probably gathered by now, this site is written and maintained by Edward Trimnell. I am the author of several books, including Why You Need a Foreign Language & How to Learn One, which was recently adopted as a supplementary university textbook.
The online guides that you will find on this site are short treatises on subjects that interest me. Hopefully they will interest you as well.
In the spirit of a weblog, the guides will be frequently updated, as I collect and compile new material--- so check back often if a particular subject catches your interest. I will also be adding entirely new topics on a regular basis.
The guides will be brief. I know that few people want to read a 5,000-word essay on a computer screen, and your printer has been out of toner since last January. Therefore, the guides will be styled for online browsing rather than extended reading. Whenever possible, I will use a bullet-point, Q&A format. I like to go into depth in my books---but I know that most online readers are here for a quick read while checking their email messages or surfing away the last ten minutes of their lunch hours. What works in a book doesn’t work in the online environment, and vice versa.
