Will Chamco be the next Honda or Toyota?

Well, that might be a long shot; but it wouldn’t surprise me if China America Cooperative Automotive Inc., or Chamco, becomes the next Kia or Hyundai within the next few years.

Chamco is aggressively working to build a dealer network in the United States. The company has been placing full-page ads in automotive trade magazines. One Chamco ad I recently saw featured a picture of a fortune cookie and a pair of chopsticks, with the tag line: “Make your fortune with Chinese cars.”

Whereas Japanese automakers have often gone out of their way to “blend in” to the Western markets, Chamco’s marketing materials are touting the company’s Chinese identity. For various historic reasons, patriotism is much stronger in China than in Japan; and it only makes sense that this is reflected in the business world.

Here is a YouTube video that features Chamco and some other Chinese automakers. Watch out Detroit, a new challenge is coming.
