Mahmoud--- bringin' down
the house at Columbia!

Some excerpts from
the CNN coverage of Iranian
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's speech at Columbia University, complete with commentary by yours truly!
"If the Holocaust is a reality of our
time, a history that occurred, why is there not sufficient research that
can approach the topic from different perspectives?" he asked
Would
you cut it out already with that Holocaust denial stuff? It was only funny like,
the first thirty-seven times...Give it up, Mahmoud, will ya?
He stressed repeatedly that Iran wants to negotiate
with the United States and other nations, several times describing Iran as
a "cultured" and "civilized" nation.
Well, let's see: You have a repressive form of theocratic government. You
execute women who are forced into prostitution for the Quranic crime of
fornication. You observe the practice of honor killing for women who
merely fornicate, or are suspected of fornication. You export
Islamic terrorism. You mercilessly persecute every religious minority in
your midst.
If the Islamic
Republic of Iran is a "civilized" country, may God save us from the
barbarians.
"In Iran, we don't have homosexuals, like in your
country."
Make any sexual
practice a hanging crime and it will pretty much disappear from anywhere.
"Women in Iran enjoy the highest levels of freedom."
Let's see: Men can
marry up to four women. A woman gets one husband, who will suffer no
penalty under Iranian law for beating or otherwise physically abusing her.
A woman can be stoned to death for the accusation of adultery. When a man
divorces his wife in Iran, he automatically gets custody of their
children. Oh, and Iranian women can wear any color of chador they
want---as long as it's black. Mahmoud, you're a regular Gloria Steinem
with a beard!
As he
ended his talk at Columbia, he invited faculty and students to visit any
university in Iran they choose.
Yeah, I bet we get a
lot of takers on that one. Don't everyone volunteer at once now.
Anyone?
