Edward Trimnell's Online Guide to the Middle East

What are the common roots between Judaism, Christianity, and Islam?

  • The histories of the world’s three major monotheistic religions intersect in the Middle East.

  • All of them recognize Abraham as the earliest prophet. Tradition holds that Abraham migrated from Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq) to Canaan (modern-day Palestine around 3000 B.C.E.)

  • Muslims belief that Allah is the deity described in the Old Testament. Muslims also acknowledge Jesus as a prophet (though they do not ascribe any divinity to him.)
